Hailstorm hammers Limburg with 5cm stones, damaging cars and flooding streets

A powerful hailstorm swept across Midden- and Noord-Limburg Saturday evening, pelting towns with hailstones up to five centimeters wide, damaging vehicles, flooding streets, and briefly halting a local pop festival.
Emergency services were called to multiple locations as the extreme weather caused widespread disruption across the region.

Around 6 p.m., hailstones measuring about two centimeters in diameter began falling in the areas around Maasbracht and Echt.
While no significant damage was initially reported in those towns, the storm intensified as it moved eastward and northward.
An hour later, larger hailstones struck Belfeld with enough force to dent car roofs.

In Venlo, where hailstones up to five centimeters were reported, some car windshields shattered under the impact.

British tourist says Corfu holiday was a 'nightmare' because there was 'no English food'

Susan Edwards set off on a seven-night all-inclusive holiday to the Greek island with her family last month but claimed the trip was 'horrendous from the minute we got there'.
The 69-year-old paid £750 for the holiday but blasted the hotel's dining options, insisting 'there was no food we could eat and we couldn't have anything to drink'.

'There was fish, sardines and rice.

Thankfully, 'we got chips one day' but only 'one day out of the whole lot'.

'One night there was a Greek night and they had kebabs, I couldn't eat that.

'It's the worst holiday I've ever been on.'

The drinks on offer at the all-inclusive included wine, lager, ouzo, or brandy, as well as soft drinks.

Bottled water cost €1.50, Ms Edwards claimed, who was travelling with her cousins, aged 77 and 78, her daughter, 30, and second cousin, 50.

But the pensioner does not like ouzo and does not drink brandy - so did not enjoy a single drink on her holiday, she claimed.

She explained that she would normally drink bottled lager or one Bacardi and Coke, but this would have cost her €9.

'By the time we paid £750 for the holiday, Euro 70 tourist tax for me and my daughter and an extra £450 for both of our meals, I could have been to the Caribbean on that', the furious tourist said.

The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel have said Ms Edwards claims are 'inaccurate, exaggerated, and in many cases entirely false information'.

I wonder what this summer will bring.

A series of wildfires burning across central Canada sent smoke billowing into the U.S. over the weekend, with few signs that the blazes will subside anytime soon.

The largest fires are burning in Manitoba, but due to prevailing wind patterns, plumes of smoke drifted southward, reaching as far as the Gulf Coast.

Satellites captured stunning imagery as smoke appeared to embed itself around a storm system moving through the East.

According to air quality readings across the Lower 48, the smoke was most hazardous across the Plains and the Upper Midwest, with moderate levels reaching as far south as Georgia and the Carolinas.

Climate scientists have called for 'immediate action' to tackle global warming -following the news that Britain has recorded its hottest spring on record.
According to the Met Office, which has been recording temperature data since 1884, spring 2025 was officially the warmest and sunniest on UK record.
The three months running from March to May marked an 'unprecedented season of warmth and sunshine', it said on Monday.
Many Brits enjoyed the balmy weather, with some even braving the UK beaches for a dip.
However, Alec Hutchings, WWF's chief climate advisor, says the record confirms that climate change is 'here now and needs immediate action'.

We are experiencing more and more extreme temperatures every season. This is not natural.

Ibiza has introduced a major new rule designed to combat overtourism on the popular Spanish island.

The island is now limiting the number of tourist cars and caravans that can visit.

In place from June 1, the rule is set to run until September 30 throughout peak season in Ibiza.

During the four-month period, only 20,168 vehicles used by non-residents will be allowed on the island.

Up to 16,000 of these can be rental cars while the other 4,108 will be for tourists who travel by ferry to the island with their own vehicle.

Tourists who want to take their own car to Ibiza will need to obtain a permit at a cost of €1/84p per day.

Caravan owners will need to provide evidence of a campsite booking and won't be allowed into Ibiza if they plan to wild camp at the side of the road.

The rule has been introduced in an attempt to combat overtourism in Ibiza.
